Montague Street’s musicians Mark Martyre and Laura Rodie perform original music with spirit, meaning, and energy, using a combination of guitars, harmonicas, saxophones and clarinet, piano, bass, and voice.

Mark and Laura joined musical forces in mid-2008, performing mainly acoustic sets with guitar and saxophone at showcases and open mics in the Toronto area. In 2009 the duo teamed up for a time with a drummer and bassist to create a full, rock-driven sound.

Montague Street recorded their self-titled, debut album in the summer of 2009, and Mark and Laura were featured on thehazefm.ca’s program Musically Yours, as well as on RogersTV Daytime following the album’s release in the fall. In March 2010 Montague Street was featured in Snap! Magazine and were described as “The highlight of the night” after their performance that “rocked South Mississauga with its style of indie music.”

Montague Street has returned to performing regularly as a duo, as well as with a backing band when it suits the venue. Fading from the City, the band's second album, was completed in June 2010. It reflects the duo's evolution, and features eight original, honest and soulful tracks, and a stripped down, minimalist approach. Since the album’s release, Montague Street has been interviewed for radio and print media, and has been featured on radio programs from Toronto to London.

Mark Martyre grew up around Ontario and Manitoba, learning to play the songs of singer/songwriters he admired as he taught himself to play guitar, harmonica, and piano. In addition to his songwriting, Mark has produced two books of poetry and prose, Wondering Down the Road (2008) and Drifting Magnetically (2009). He is currently working on a third.

Laura Rodie grew up in Huntsville, Ontario, where she spent many childhood evenings with her mom and her record collection. Interested in music from an early age, Laura pursued saxophone, clarinet, and piano through school and community programs. She went on to study music at The University of Western Ontario.
